Ontario Band Association Results
In February the Gold Band, Silver Band and Gold Fever participated in the OBA Musicfest. The Gold and Silver Bands each represented the school very well and got numerous compliments from the team of adjudicators. Each band was given a “Silver” rating and were also invited to participate in the national Musicfest being held in Ottawa this year. This is a prestigious invitation and the musicians are to be congratulated on their excellent work.
The Gold Fever Jazz ensemble was awarded a “Gold” rating and was also invited to the national competition. This was the first time that Gold Fever ever has received this high rating and an invitation to the nationals.
Recordings of all of these performances will soon be found in the Recordings section. The Gold Band recordings and Silver Band recordings are now up!
York University Grade 10 Invitational Band Festival
Again this year, our Grade 10 band was invited to participate in this excellent festival at York University. The band played in the afternoon session and had a brief workshop with an adjudicator then had dinner at York University Student Centre, then returned to be part of a showcase concert in the evening with 4 other GTA Grade 10 bands. The musicians got to hear their peers and enjoy a variety of musical performances. We look forward to attending again next year.
Performances at Music Alive
The Silver Band participated on Thursday, April 22 at the Newmarket Theatre where they were awarded a “Silver” rating and enjoyed working with adjudicator Colin Clarke. Listen to the recordings in the Recordings section.
The Gold Fever senior jazz band performed on Tuesday, April 27 at the Cosmo Music Centre auditorium and were awarded a “Silver” rating. They were congratulated by the adjudicator Andy Ballentyne on their ability to play the “swing” style.
The Grade 9 Concert Band played on Monday, May 3 at the Newmarket Theatre and were awarded a “Gold” rating for their efforts. This was our only Gold award at Music Alive this year. Congratulations to Ms. Christopoulos and the band!
Ottawa Band Trip
An enriched Silver Band will be travelling to Ottawa from May 19 to May 21 to compete in the National Musicfest festival. This group of Silver Band students augmented with some Gold Band members will take part in the performance, clinic, adjudication, workshops and concerts that are part of the festival.
This band was invited to be part of the national festival after an outstanding performance in the region session. They will also see the Canadian Musicfest Honour Band, which includes Leanne Rosen and Sabrina Wang from RHHS who auditioned and were selected for this prestigious ensemble of students from all over Canada.
