Biographies of the music teachers at Richmond Hill High School

Tim Henry

Trombone

Tim HenryMr. Henry is the Head of Music at Richmond Hill High School. He has a Bachelor of Music degree from McMaster University where he  studied trombone, and a Bachelor of Education from the University of  Toronto. He has been the Head of Music since 1992. Mr. Henry has taught band to students from Grade 4 and up, and some of his former students have become music teachers and professional musicians. Mr. Henry has 2 children and he spends his spare time transporting them to various activities, coaching curling and playing trombone in the band he co-founded, the fabulous Blackboard Blues Band. This group of teachers plays in bars, clubs and at festivals and private parties across the GTA. Check it out at www.blackboardbluesband.ca.

Joanna Christopoulos

Mezzo-Soprano, Piano, French Horn

Born in Toronto, Ms. Christopoulos is an active singer, choral director, and teacher throughout the GTA. Ms.Christopoulos started her musical studies in piano at the age of  6 and voice studies at the age of 10. She has her degrees in Bachelor of Fine Arts, Honours Music, classical voice and Bachelor of Education  from York University. Ms. Christopoulos has studied voice with Canadian renowned mezzo-soprano Catherine Robbin. Prominent teachers that she has also studied with are Stephanie Bogel, soprano, vocal teacher  at York University and the Glenn Gould School for the Performing Arts. She has also worked with Brahm Goldhammer of the Glenn Gould Studio and Stuart Hamilton of the Toronto Opera in Concert.

Ms. Christopoulos has competed in  Canadian and American Vocal competitions such as N.A.T.S., Kiwanis and Newmarket Vocal Festival, achieving various awards. Ms. Christopoulos has appeared in past Opera Productions of Purcell’s Dido and Aeneas, Mozart’s The Magic Flute and The Marriage of Figaro. Joanna has also participated in master classes with Canadian artists like Norma Burrows, Russell Braun and Daniel Litchi. Ms. Christopoulos currently directs the Richmond Hill Grade 9 Concert Band, Concert Choir, Jazz Choir and Music Theatre. In her spare time, she sings and co-directs her church choir and performs at various functions in the Toronto area.
